The Last Jew Standing on... Movements in American Judaism


1.    Every movement in American Judaism has its own siddur-  usually more than one.

2.   The first synagogues built in America were what would now be called Orthodox.

3.   Reform Jews are the least religiously observant Jews in America.

4.   Orthodox Jews are no more likely to come to synagogue on Shabbat  just to pray than jews in other movements.

5.    Not all Orthodox Jews have a Bat Mitzvah celebration for their daughters.

6.   Conservative Judaism was the first to ordain women as rabbis, then Reform.

7.   It’s actually Reformed  Judaism.    People keep leaving off the “-ed.”

8.   Conservative Judaism was about Conserving our freedoms in comparison to Orthodoxy .

9.   Orthodoxy is unified in how it forbids religious leadership roles for women.        

10.                   World-wide, there  are a about two  dozen Yeshivot for Conservative adults to study in, but several hundred Orthodox Yeshivot.
